Story[]
Jon, Tyler and Dawn walk into the Gym, the next day. When they enter, they see Whitney and Megan.
Jon: Are you free for a Gym Battle?
Whitney: Yeah, though it is a tag battle.
Tyler: We know, and we are here to win!
Jon and Tyler are on one side of the battlefield. Whitney and Megan are on the other. The Referee is on the side. Dawn and Piplup are in the stands.
Dawn: Good luck you two!
Whitney: Let’s get the battle on the road.
Whitney sends out Miltank and Megan sends out a Lopunny.
Jon: A Miltank and who is that?
Jon gets out his Pokedex and points it at Lopunny.
Jon’s Pokedex: Lopunny, the Rabbit Pokemon. Lopunny are from the Sinnoh Region. The ears seem to be delicate. If they are touched roughly, it kicks with its graceful legs.
Jon puts his Pokedex away.
Jon: A Normal type. Cyndaquil, let’s go.
Tyler: You too Totodile.
Jon sends out Cyndaquil and the Tyler sends out Totodile.
Referee: Begin!
Tyler: Let’s do well.
Jon: Yeah. Flame Charge on Lopunny!
Cyndaquil covers itself in flames and then dashes towards Lopunny.
Megan: Jump Kick
Lopunny dodges then uses Jump Kick on Cyndaquil. Cyndaquil bounces on the ground and lands on two feet next to Totodile.
Jon: That was fast reactions.
Tyler: They are dangerous.
Jon: We have dealt with a Miltank at camp, so we have an idea on how this Pokemon does.
Whitney: Stumped already? Defence Curl.
Miltank uses Defence Curl.
Jon: Same as camp. Rollout will be more powerful.
Tyler: Yeah. This is going to be a challenge.
Jon: Wouldn’t like it any other way.
Dawn: Reminds me of Ash when he was battling the Gyms in Sinnoh.
Piplup: Lup.
Megan: Jump Kick!
Lopunny uses Jump Kick towards Cyndaquil.
Jon: Dodge.
Cyndaquil dodges but Lopunny uses its other leg to change direction on the ground and then hits Cyndaquil. Cyndaquil bounces and lands next to Totodile.
Jon: You okay Cyndaquil?
Cyndaquil gets up, slowly but okay.
Jon: That’s a relief.
Tyler: They are powerful.
Jon: We have been travelling together for a good amount of time. Maybe a combo?
Tyler: What do you suggest?
Jon: Flame Charge and grab Totodile. Go for Miltank!
Cyndaquil grabs Totodile and uses Flame Charge towards Miltank. Both Cyndaquil and Totodile are moving fast.
Tyler: I see. Dragon Claw!
Totodile gets ready to use Dragon Claw.
Megan: Use Focus Punch!
Jon: Go, chuck Totodile!
Cyndaquil throws Totodile at Lopunny before Lopunny can use Focus Punch. Lopunny gets hit with Dragon Claw and gets knocked back. Cyndaquil heads for Miltank, landing Flame Charge. Cyndaquil glows red.
Jon: Did that do a good amount of damage?
Both Cyndaquil and Totodile are near Jon and Tyler. Miltank and Lopunny show they took little damage from the attacks.
Tyler: Nothing?!
Jon: After a fast Dragon Claw! I thought that would have done more to Lopunny.
Megan: Lopunny and I have been training for a long time, no speedy attack is going to hurt us.
Whitney: It was a good strategy though. Use Defence Curl.
Miltank uses Defence Curl and glows red showing its defence rise.
Jon: Again?
Tyler: They are expecting to knock out our Pokemon in one hit.
Jon: That won’t happen.
Whitney: You think?
Megan: Helping Hand!
Whitney: Double-Edge on Cyndaquil!
Lopunny puts its ear onto Miltank and Miltank glows green. Miltank then runs towards Cyndaquil using Double-Edge.
Jon: Flame Charge!
Cyndaquil uses Flame Charge at Miltank. The moves collide but Cyndaquil smashes onto the battlefield next to Totodile.
Jon: Cyndaquil!
Tyler: The power.
Megan: Miltank already has high attack but Helping Hand increases the attack power 1.5 times.
Jon: Argh!
Tyler: With Helping Hand along with Defence Curl, they will be difficult to beat.
Jon: Along with Jump Kick and Double-Edge. And Miltank knowing Rollout too.
Whitney: You know the Rollout strategy.
Tyler: Yeah, though we don’t like it.
Totodile: Dile, Totodile!
Cyndaquil: Quil, Cyndaquil!
Jon: You sure?
Cyndaquil nods.
Jon: Totodile wants to use Dig.
Tyler: Okay, seems like Totodile has a plan. Use Dig!
Totodile digs underground.
Megan: Use Dizzy Punch on the ground!
Jon: Aerial Ace quick!
Lopunny uses Dizzy Punch towards the ground but Cyndaquil hits with Aerial Ace before Lopunny can make contact.
Jon: Keep at it!
Cyndaquil keeps attacking both Miltank and Lopunny with Aerial Ace. Without Whitney and Megan knowing, Totodile makes loads of holes around the battlefield and around Miltank and Lopunny.
Dawn: I see what they are doing.
Totodile appears back up near Tyler. Cyndaquil stops using Aerial Ace and lands next to Totodile.
Megan: Totodile didn’t attack?
Whitney: Even I’m confused.
Jon: Then we’ll show you. Incinerate!
Cyndaquil uses Incinerate into the hole in front of him and Totodile.
Megan: That’s done nothing.
Suddenly, Incinerate pops out of all the holes near Miltank and Lopunny, with Incinerate getting closer and closer each time.
Jon: Good work!
Incinerate goes through two holes next to Miltank and Lopunny and they both get hit. They take a bit of damage.
Megan: I’m impressed.
Tyler: Water Gun!
Whitney: Watch out for the holes!
Miltank and Lopunny prepare for the Water Gun coming out of the holes. Totodile uses Water Gun at Lopunny without using the holes. Lopunny gets hit but little damage has been dealt.
Whitney: Interesting. Switching it up. Time for the A game move.
Megan: Right. Jump Kick!
Lopunny runs in using Jump Kick towards Totodile.
Jon: Aerial Ace!
Cyndaquil uses Aerial Ace quick and counters Jump Kick. Miltank is using Rollout and hits Totodile. Totodile gets up weakly, but they staggers and goes down on one knee.
Tyler: Totodile!
Jon: Cover Totodile, use Incinerate!
Cyndaquil aims Incinerate at Miltank.
Megan: Dizzy Punch!
Lopunny uses Dizzy Punch on the ground and dirt flies up stopping the Incinerate.
Megan: Jump Kick!
Whitney: Rollout!
Miltank uses Rollout and Lopunny uses Jump Kick and Cyndaquil and kicks it towards the Rollout. Cyndaquil gets hit by the Rollout and flies into the air.
Megan: Jump Kick!
Lopunny jumps up to Cyndaquil’s height and uses Jump Kick to knock Cyndaquil on the ground. Cyndaquil gets up weakly.
Whitney: I’m impressed.
Megan: Now see if you can take this. Helping Hand!
Lopunny uses Helping Hand on Miltank.
Jon: Watch out Cyndaquil.
Cyndaquil. Da.
Whitney: Hyper Beam!
Dawn: Hyper Beam?!
Miltank uses Hyper Beam at Cyndaquil. The Hyper Beam is larger than normal due to Helping Hand. Cyndaquil stands there in fear.
Jon: Cyndaquil!!!!
Totodile gets up and jumps in front of Cyndaquil, without Jon or Tyler knowing. The Hyper Beam hits. Jon looks at Totodile.
Jon: Totodile?
Tyler: Is Totodile using Protect?
Jon: Don’t think so.
The Hyper Beam disperses and we see Totodile get engulfed in blue light.
Dawn: Is it evolving?
Piplup: Piplup.
Megan: Totodile is evolving.
Totodile grows taller and get pink spikes on its head. The blue light disperses and Totodile has evolved into Croconaw.
Croconaw: Croconaw!
Tyler: Croconaw.
Croconaw runs towards Lopunny.
Megan: What is Croconaw doing?
Jon notices Croconaw’s right fist looking cold.
Jon: Croconaw is using Ice Punch!
Tyler: Really? Use Ice Punch, go for it Croconaw!
Croconaw hits Lopunny with Ice Punch. Lopunny takes a bit of damage.
Whitney: Learning a new move upon evolving.
Megan: Lopunny, use Jump Kick.
Croconaw is close to Lopunny. Lopunny gets ready to use Jump Kick.
Jon: Use Flame Charge.
Cyndaquil moves really fast and hits Lopunny with Flame Charge. Croconaw and Cyndaquil are near Jon and Tyler.
Whitney: Rollout!
Miltank uses Rollout.
Tyler: Ice Punch the ground.
Croconaw uses Ice Punch on the ground and ice spikes pop out. Miltank smashes through all of them. Miltank is heading towards Croconaw fast. Jon notices a hole Miltank is heading for, and so does Cyndaquil.
Jon: You see it?
Cyndaquil: Cynda.
Jon: Then use Incinerate!
Cyndaquil uses Incinerate in a hole. As soon as Miltank goes over a hole using Rollout, a jet of incinerate comes out of the hole and blasts Miltank into the air.
Whitney: What?
Megan: Dizzy Punch!
Lopunny moves for Cyndaquil.
Jon: Flame Charge on Miltank!
Miltank is falling through the air and Cyndaquil uses Flame Charge on it knocking Miltank towards Lopunny. They both land on the battlefield.
Tyler: Use Dragon Claw.
Jon: Hold on to Croconaw and use Aerial Ace.
Cyndaquil and Croconaw hold hands. Croconaw uses Dragon Claw and Cyndaquil uses Aerial Ace. They both head towards Miltank and Lopunny fast and land the attacks. A big smoke cloud appears.
Jon: Did we do enough?
When the smoke cloud disappears, we see Cyndaquil and Croconaw looking happy towards Jon and Tyler.
Referee: Both Lopunny and Miltank are unable to battle. The winners of this match is Tyler and Jon!
Jon and Tyler high five. A few moments pass and Whitney gives Jon and Tyler the gym badge.
Whitney: This is proof of your victory here.
Jon: Thanks.
Megan: You battled well.
Whitney: You threw up a lot of surprises.
Tyler: We believed we could win and we did.
At night, the scene moves to the Pokemon Center. Croconaw and Cyndaquil walk out of the healing room. Tyler points his Pokedex at Croconaw while Cyndaquil jumps onto Jon’s shoulder.
Tyler’s Pokedex: Croconaw, the big jaw Pokemon, and the evolved form of Totodile. It opens its mouth wide and attacks. If it loses its teeth, they regrow in a day.
Tyler puts his Pokedex away.
Jon: It was amazing Croconaw evolved when it did.
Tyler: Yeah.
Dawn: That battled reminded me of when I was travelling with Ash and Brock through Sinnoh.
Jon: So, what are your plans now?
Dawn: There’s a Pokemon Contest here in Goldenrod City I want to take part in.
Jon: I want to participate too.
Tyler: Me aswell.
Dawn: Cool. We will all sign up together tomorrow.
Jon: Till then, let’s eat!
Narrator: Jon and Tyler win their 3rd Gym Badge after some tricky battling. Tyler’s Totodile evolved into Croconaw during the battle to help Jon and Tyler win. Now, they go with Dawn to partake in a Pokemon Contest.
