Connectivity
Pokémon Dusk and Dawn are compatible with all Generation V main series games (and by extension all main series games from Generations III and IV) via the Radiant Rift.
Features
Clock and calendar
The day-night system present since Generation IV and the season system introduced in Generation V have been significantly improved. The transitions between time periods and seasons is much more noticeable, and the five time periods (morning, day, afternoon, evening, and night) are now completely independent of each other, in contrast with previous generations where afternoon counted as day and evening counted as night; however, Pokémon that evolve according to the time of day will still evolve according to the old system.
Walking Pokémon
The option to have a Pokémon walk with you outside of its Poké Ball, absent since Generation IV's HeartGold and SoulSilver, makes a welcome return. This time, the feature is completely optional and you can choose which party member follows you.
Using field moves
In addition to following the player, Pokémon will also leave their Poké Balls to use moves in the field. Unlike HGSS, which included a limited version of this feature that only applied to walking Pokémon using HM moves, any Pokémon (not just the one following the player), will come out of its Ball to use a move in the field; this also applies to non-Machines moves such as Sweet Scent. Unlike in HGSS, which showed the Pokémon approach the obstacle and disappear (being replaced by generic icons in the case of Surf and Fly), the Pokémon will actually be seen to use the move in the field, including an animation similar to those seen in battle.
Gyms
Pokémon Dusk and Dawn feature the traditional eight Pokémon Gyms; however, there are a total of twelve Gym Leaders among them. They are Landon (Ground), Krysta (Bug), Jules and Verne (Fire and Ice, respectively), Sarina (Poison), Faith (Ghost), Chaz (Dark), Ivan (Dragon), and Bronson, Sylvia, and Dorian (Steel). Jules and Verne face the player in a double battle, while the player may face Bronson, Sylvia, or Dorian individually in Rotation Battles or all at once in a triple battle, depending on the version.
Elite Four and Champion
Earning badges from all eight Gyms will allow the player to face the Elite Four. They are Blake (Normal), Starla (Flying), Harland (Grass), and Alexis (Electric). Defeating the Elite Four will allow the player to face the Champion, Victoria (Psychic).
