The Nanbu region (Japanese: 南部地方 Nanbu-chihō) is a large landmass located far away from the other regions of the Pokemon world. The region itself is introduced in the sixth generation of the Pokémon series. The region is also the main setting for the Pokémon Neon and Argon Versions and later the third installment of the sixth generation, Pokémon Krypton Version.

Etymology and design concept[]

The name Nanbu is derived from the Japanese word nambu (南部, Literally meaning "southern part). This was supposed to be in corrolation with Southland, an alias of the Greater Los Angeles Area on which the region is based.

Routes[]

There are a total of twenty routes in the Nanbu region. The numbering of the routes in Nanbu does not follow the usual pattern of previous generations before Generation V. The region of Nanbu is isolated from the other regions of the Pokemon World with there not being much communication with the Unova region located to the east, therefore the routes are numbered 1-20.

Geography[]

The Nanbu region is located on the exact same landmass as the Unova region and is located directly west of the Unova border. The region of Nanbu can be divided up into primarily two geographical regions known as Coastal Nanbu and Inter-Nanbu alike. As its name speaks, Coastal Nanbu is located along the coast of the Nanbu region while Inter-Nanbu is located more inward. The environments of the two geographical regions are completely different. Coastal Nanbu, based on California's South Coast, is very lush while Inter-Nanbu is dry and hot. Coastal Nanbu is the home to many beaches while Inter-Nanbu contains many deserts and mountains.

There are many rural and urban areas within the Nanbu region. More of the regions larger cities lie on it's coastal areas and attract many attention from tourist and travelers. The largest city within Nanbu is Horntensia City where the Pokémon League of Nanbu can be found. Scattered across the Nanbu region are thirteen different settlements, each one with something unique. Horntensia City is a metropolis much like Castelia City of the Unova region and is known to be the second largest city of any Pokémon region.
