Mortimer Jack Finite is a thirteen-year-old boy in Pokemon Genesis. The player can encounter him three times during the game. He uses Ghost-Type Pokémon and eventually uses nocturnal Pokémon.

Early Life

It is rumored that Mort’s father, Jack, was once a master trainer who defeated the Elite Four using only one Pokémon. However, he became an alcoholic later in life and left the three-year-old Mort asleep in the middle of Ghoul Forest. At midnight, the strange creatures of Ghoul Forest came out from the trees and surrounded the still-sleeping Mort, planning to make him the center of their yearly feast. Just as they were about to kill Mort, a Duskull jumped forward to protect the boy. Shoved to the side, the Duskull was attacked by a number of Spinarak. Hearing the Duskull’s cries, Mort awoke and shooed the Pokémon away. The Duskull became a good friend of Mort.

Communication With Pokémon

When Mort was eight, he began to discover that he had a gift: he could communicate with Pokémon, particularly those that had affected him in his past. The people of Termount Village became afraid of him and would run to their houses whenever he walked by. Several people from other villages and cities considered him a warlock. However, this gift was natural.

Mort is the great-great-grandfather of Phoebe, the Ghost-Type trainer in the Hoenn Elite Four. His future wife is believed to be Forsea.

The first two Pokémon Mort uses are Gastly and Duskull, leading the player to believe that he is a Ghost-Type Trainer. However, he eventually expands his horizons.
