Story
Jon and Ryan are awake at the crack of dawn in the Pokemon Center. The others are still sleeping.
Jon: Ready?
Ryan: Oh yeah!
Ryan is tossing a Pokeball up and down in his hand.
Ryan: You send out someone first.
Jon: Well sure, but we need to go to the battlefield first.
Jon and Ryan, along with Quilladin and Typhlosion, head out the Pokemon Center and use the battlefield round the back.
Jon: Right, Litten you’re up!
Jon sends out Litten.
Jon: As the next fire type gym leader of Hoenn, I’m going to treat this like a gym battle. So, only you can make substitutions.
Ryan: Wait, hold on, what? When did that happen? After I left Hoenn?
Jon: Before you arrived, but with everything that was happening, I was a bit preoccupied. So, your Pokemon?
Ryan: Right, right. Let’s go Sceptile, I choose you!
Ryan threw Sceptile’s Pokeball in the air and Sceptile pops out.
Sceptile: Scep.
Ryan: I decided this would be a good time to get some training in with Sceptile.
Jon: Sceptile, a grass type. Litten, be on your guard.
Litten: Ten.
Jon: You can go first Ryan!
Ryan: Energy Ball!
Sceptile fired a ball of green energy towards Litten.
Jon: Ember!
Litten uses Ember to cancel it out.
Jon: Come on! Show me your battle power! Now, Flame Charge!
Litten covers itself in flames and runs towards Sceptile.
Ryan: Dodge, and use Bullet Seed.
Sceptile dodges and uses Bullet Seed at Litten. The move hits and Litten skids back to Jon.
Jon: Hmm. Ember!
Litten sends Ember in Sceptile’s direction.
Ryan: Duck!
Sceptile ducks and just dodges Ember.
Ryan: Mega Drain!
Sceptile uses the move and begins draining Litten’s health.
Jon: Flame Charge!
Litten uses Flame Charge to burn up Mega Drain and then runs towards Sceptile.
Ryan: Bullet Seed!
Sceptile uses Bullet Seed and stops Litten, but Litten takes no damage and has gone back to Jon.
Jon: Scratch!
Litten begins to run towards Sceptile once more using Scratch.
Ryan: Energy Ball!
Sceptile fired the move in Litten’s direction. Litten dodges and continues running at Sceptile using Scratch. Sceptile got hit, and skidded back a couple inches, still standing but super tired as a result of the Litten's attack.
Ryan: Right Sceptile, you've done valiantly. You've more than earned a rest.
Sceptile: Tile.
Sceptile nodded as he was returned into his Pokeball.
Ryan: Time for someone else to step in. Though Jon, if you and Litten don't mind, I would like a bit of time to think about my choice, as opposed to blindly throwing someone else in.
Jon: Take your time.
After a few minutes or so, Ryan pulled out another Pokeball.
Ryan. Greninja, let's go!
Ryan tossed the Pokeball, and Greninja popped out in a flash of light.
Greninja: Gre.
Ryan: Since you let me start when I used Sceptile, it’s only fair that I let you start now. Let's do this! Make your move
Jon (thinking): Well we are screwed.
Jon thinks for a bit.
Jon: Growl!
Litten uses Growl and lowers Greininja attack.
Ryan: Quick Attack!
Greninja heads in Litten’s direction and hits Litten. Litten barely holds on.
Jon: Ember!
Litten sends Ember in Greninja’s direction.
Ryan: Water Pledge!
The three pillars of water put out Ember, and headed towards Litten. The move this and knocks Litten out. Jon returns Litten.
Jon: You were good Litten.
Jon pockets Litten’s Pokeball.
Jon: So, I was hoping to see another Pokemon of yours but if its Greninja, Typhlosion, you’re next.
Typhlosion stands on the battlefield looking at Greninja.
Ryan: Well, can’t argue with the classics, can you. Quick Attack!
Greninja uses Quick Attack towards Typhlosion. Typhlosion dodges with ease.
Jon: You think we haven’t worked on that! Now, Focus Blast!
Typhlosion uses Focus Blast, but with Greninja being so close, Greninja can’t dodge and gets hit by the attack, causing super effective damage.
Ryan: Greninja! Argh, of couse. Greninja, are you okay?
Greninja staggered to his feet, holding onbut still very tired.
Ryan: Lick!
Greninja uses Lick and lands the attack.
Jon: Flamethower!
Typhlosion uses Flamethrower towards Greninja.
Ryan: Water Pledge!
Greninja uses Water Pledge and cancels out Flamethrower but also hits Typhlosion. Typhlosion is standing strong.
Jon: Shuriken Blaze!
Typhlosion claps his hands together and throws fire shurikens in Greninja’s direction. Greninja couldn’t move in time and gets hit and knocked out.
Jon: Great work Typhlosion. Only Sceptile left.
Ryan: Sorry, but I give up.
Ryan returns Greninja.
Ryan: I still have a lot to learn obviously.
Jon: Everyone always has something to learn.
Malcom, Drake and Mary walk over, having only just woken up.
Drake: You guys are up early.
Malcom: So, what about your battle?
Jon: Had it.
Mary: What?!
Drake: Oh man.
Jon: Ryan, next time we meet, let’s battle again. I’m sure we will meet again somewhere in Alola.
Ryan: Yeah.
Jon: Well, I won’t force you to battle, but you know what I mean.
Ryan: I do.
Drake: Well, what now?
Ryan: I think I am going to battle for the next Z-Crystal.
Mary: Remember you still need to battle Hala to get his Z-Crystal.
Ryan: I’m going to just circle around and get the other crystals first.
Malcom: I’m travelling with you don’t forget.
Drake: Well, I hope you achieve your goals Ryan.
Ryan: You too guys.
Jon: Well, see you later Ryan.
Jon holds out his hand.
Ryan: If one of us succeeds in the challenge while the other one fails.
Ryan shakes Jon’s hand.
Ryan: I hope you’re the one who succeeds.
Jon: You’ll succeed too.
Ryan: But if it were a matter of who succeeds the fastest, that’s a whole other matter.
Ryan laughed.
Mary: Well, we are going to explore the town a bit more.
Jon: So we will see you around.
Jon, Typhlosion, Mary and Drake wave goodbye and then walk off out of sight from Ryan and Malcom.
Narrator: Jon and Ryan had another battle, however this time, Jon stated it was gym leader rules as he is going to be the new Hoenn fire type gym leader. Now, with the friends departing each other’s presence, I wonder what the future has in store.
