Jei Akiyama, also known as Dynamo, is a young Pokémon trainer and the main protagonist of Pokemon: Middle Ground.

History[]

Dynamo and Gryffon Fukui were in Santalune Forest when they found an injured Chespin. Gryffon believed that the Chespin should be left behind behind because it may be dying, but Dynamo wanted to help the Chespin. He took the Pokémon to Kingsley, an elder in Rosea, the boys' hometown. The man rubbed the Chespin with a special salve to help his wounds heal faster.

Dynamo took Chespin home to let him rest. Within a few hours, Chespin's wounds began healing to the point that he felt no pain. The two went outside and played until nightfall, in which they went to bed and slept until ten the next morning.

Dynamo's mother woke her son up to tell him that Gryffon was waiting for him outside. He got ready and walked outside to find his friend waiting for him. Gryffon apologizes to Dynamo for what he said about Chespin, realizing he was wrong. He then tells Dynamo that he told Professor Sycamore about what happened with Chespin. Gryffon mentions wanting to become closer to Pokémon, which Sycamore recommends becoming a trainer. He soon leaves to wait for Sycamore's assistant.

Dynamo starts the day with Chespin. About an hour later, Gryffon was at Dynamo's door again, wanting to show Dynamo his new Pokémon, Fennekin. He also shows Dynamo his Pokédex, but then gives Dynamo one of his own, saying that Sycamore believed that he could make a good trainer because of his passion.

Gyffon leaves to go to Lumiose City to meet Professor Sycamore. Immediately afterwards, Dynamo suggests that he and Chespin should go for a walk in Santalune Forest. While in the forest, Dynamo told Chespin that he had mixed feelings about becoming a trainer, saying that he didn't know if he had the experience. Shortly after, a nearby tree rustled, and an angry Simisear jumped in front of the two. Dynamo was afraid to do anything because he feared that the Pokémon may have knew a fire type move. Chespin immediately jumped in front of Dynamo, trying to protect him. Dynamo realized that Chespin wanted to battle Simisear, and pulled out his Pokédex to check Chespin's moves. He then told Chespin to use Vine Whip, and then Tackle, which knocked out Simisear. Afterward, Dynamo knew that he would make a good Pokémon trainer.
