Ray (Japanese: ドラゴ Drago) is a master Dragon-type trainer and the Chancellor of the Atora region. He was very briefly the Champion of the Atora League, and a rogue traveler in Pokémon Sun & Moon Versions. He is the older brother of Xack and Alisyn and the younger brother of Olivia.
In the games
Ray and his siblings were born and raised in the Alola region. He and his younger sister Alisyn worked at the Aether Founcation helping with Pokémon conservation. Part of his work included research on Ultra Wormholes. One day he accidentally discovered Branch Chief Faba's notes and was able to encounter the Ultra Wormhole himself. Inside there he supposedly met with a powerful legendary Pokémon, an encounter that he claims changed his fate forever.
Ray appears for the first time in Pokémon Sun & Moon. In both versions, he is a major rival character who is first seen in Belful City having an argument with Alisyn. After the pair splits up, he approaches the player character claiming that their presence physically gives him a headache. He instructs the player to go to Belful Tower as there may be something there for them.
The player will find him again in Umbrood City where he is confronted by his older sister. Ray reveals his sister Olivia to be the current Atora Champion before accusing her of serving the role selfishly. He will then mention something about the Eclipse Corps and the Inner Circle before leaving.
He is later seen in the story when the version specific legendary Pokémon (Falcyre for Moon and Darcore for Sun) presents itself. Ray reveals to the player what has always been his suspicion, the current Atora region Chancellor Theodore III is actually the primary funder of the Eclipse Corps and the highest ranking member of the Inner Circle. He expresses frustration about Olivia letting the Chancellor get away with corruption under her rule as Champion, but then realizes that she likely was not aware of the full depth of the corruption. Upon Theodore III's defeat by the player character, Ray advises them to storm the Atora League in Pantheon City and strip the Chancellor of his powers.
Once the player reaches Pantheon City for the first time, a cutscene plays where an unidentified character (who is implied to be Ray) storms into the Champion's room. Olivia rises from her throne and declares that she was expecting him.
Once the player makes it all the way through the Elite Four, they will find Ray waiting for them in the Champion room. He reveals to them that he defeated his sister in battle to win his place at the throne of the region and will challenge them to their hardest fight yet. Upon his defeat, he tells the player that in order for them to storm into the Senatorial Hall where Chancellor Theodore III awaits, they must be a member of the senate of the Elite Four. He took the title from his sister so that in case the player failed to get through the Elite Four he could do it himself. He transfers his short tenure as Champion to the player, officially registering the player as a member of the Elite Four for them to go through the doors of the Senatorial Hall.

Death Trials
Ray will choose three Pokémon at random from the pool below in single battles, four in double battles, and two in multi-battles to use in the Death Trials. During the Apex challenge, one of his Pokémon will always be Rayquaza.
