I've started the task of at least quantifying and logging our problem templates. The category is Category:Broken Templates. If you run into a template that looks screwed up, please add that category in between noinclude tags. If you don't have access to edit the template, either let me know or post it's name on the category page so I can run it through with the bot. Thanks, folks.
EDIT: More instructions found on Category:Broken_check!!!
Just Updated
In the interest of improving navigation (and thus our community cohesion), I have begun to merge categories using our bot with AWB. I ask you all to help me out by identifying similar categories (such as Pokemon and Pokémon and Fictional Pokemon) for me to merge into one large one.
After this is completed, there will still be some pages left in the old categories due to automatic template categorization. I want some folks to figure out what the offending templates are and try to fix them, or request them be unlocked or fixed by an admin.
Hey all, this is a thing. It might promote your work to have it posted here.
I have requested that our pages be unprotected for several reasons.
First, our pages were being blanket protected indiscriminately. This shows up in a log and makes it look like our wiki is unwelcoming. Having 50% of our pages under protection is too much and discourages people from outside from coming in and editing.
I understand that you may have a fear that this will result in vandalism, which will not be true. We have several systems in place to prevent this; this is why we have staff members and a hierarchy. There is a report system in place through Project:Admin Pager, and all junior admins and admins have the rollback ability to revert many edits by a user instantly. Admins are here to enforce the vandalism rule, and it is punished harshly with blocks. We also have a patrol system in place on recent changes, and this means that every edit made on the wiki is checked by an admin soon after it is made.
We also already have a blanket protection covering the wiki. This was applied by staff without notification several years back; they placed our entire wiki under registered users only. The additional protection applied across the wiki by Commander Lighting is generally "autoconfirmed only". Users enter this group automatically after being on wikia for a couple days and making only 10 edits wikia-wide. The majority of vandals are already in this group because they hit smaller wikis before moving to larger ones, so this aforementioned protection is little help against this kind of threat.
If you have a vandal to report, please talk to a staff member. We're always ready to address this sort of problem.
It is alright to request your pages remain protected, that is your right as a user. However, I posted this to inform you that it is not required for the safety of your pages and has little effect. If you have further questions, please ask below.
I have created a simple page rating system. Use it if you wish. I recommend it, but I will not require it right now. I will go through some pages and apply ratings. You can find information at PokéFanon:Page Rating System.
