Lakolm was hatched and raised by a Lakolm Breeder, before being given to Professor Yew when it was the right level to give to a beginning Trainer.

Later, Lakolm was chosen by Alexei Saffron to be his starter Pokémon, and they began their journey together, alongside Alex's twin sister Anastasia and her Colphaus.
